We know many families are struggling to support their children with addiction and are receiving little support from Stamford Public Schools.


After what we have been through these past couple of years and the continued inundation of technology and other novel inventions of modernity, the battle with addiction is perhaps more complicated than ever and can be lonely.

As we know, vaping is a huge problem in the high schools, and even in the middle schools. It's true that neighboring districts have this problem. There is a vaping diversion class for students caught vaping at school, and it is an alternative to suspension. The Stamford PD and DOMUS operate the program. It's a good approach because removing a student from school leads to learning loss and disengagement. If a student needs additional supports, the community partners provide referrals. HOWEVER, Westhill has been telling students they are being referred to the vaping diversion class but has not been following through by sending their information to the SPD or DOMUS.
